Below are a few of the stories shared so far.
“We started seriously composting all food waste during the multi-year California drought mainly to avoid running the water while shoving food waste into the garbage disposal. We also had to call a plumber a couple of times when the pipes got clogged, so we now rarely use the garbage disposal. Very little food now goes down the drain. We put it all in the compost bin!”
– Jill, Redwood City
“Once we started compost collecting, the trash was no longer stinky, and it was dramatically reduced in volume too! We have the smallest possible black, trash bin, but there are times we only need to drag it up our steep driveway every two weeks!“
– Ginny, San Carlos
“I compost because the very thought that organics can be turned into something as beneficial as compost amazes me! Knowing that there’s a whole world of micro-organisms in there, breaking down all the material is something I never thought of until I learned more about composting.”
– Mike, San Mateo
“In a world where the ocean is filling up with plastic, glaciers are melting, forests are burning, and everything seems to be quickly going down a toilet—I compost because it’s the only real way I feel like I help make a positive impact. It puts the control back on me and it makes me feel that maybe the world isn’t doomed after all.”
– Charlie, Redwood City
